You will be get shocked that the internet you are using is only 4% of total internet and remaining is covered with deep web and dark web. Dark web is the World Wide Web content that is hidden by world and requires specific authorization to access it. Generally, there are three layers of internet: Surface Web, Deep Web and Dark Web. Surface web is the layer of internet which become indexed by Search Engines such as Google, Yahoo. Deep web is the layer of internet which is not accessible by normal user and requires permission to access it. For example, Facebook friends can only see some part of facebook profile but not all detail because it can be only seen by the person who have its password. Here, data is hidden by everyone in internet which is called deep web. In deep web, government documets and secrets, military secrets are found. Dark web is the place where you can find illegal activities , fraud and can be accessible only through Tor browser or VPN. So, how do you become anonymous? Actually, the IP address which is changing frequently make the user anonymous in internet. For example: if we surf internet from USA, it will show as if we are surfing from China or any other countries. Nobody can track them so they feel free to do anything on internet. It's URL is so long and comes with ".onion" domain like "www.silkroad0984.0.onion" which becomes difficult to remember. Therefore, it is difficult to know the exact identity of the person surfing darknet websites.
The darkweb is used for doing illegal activities such as hiring hitmen, selling expensive products in cheap price, black market, selling and buying weapons, torture and more. Things like stolen credit card, hacking software, government secret documents are found here. Initially, it was funded as a project called onion routing project to let people surf internet without being tracking their identity so that they can surf anonymously. Later, people started using it as a place for doing illegal activities due to its anonymous property.
There is no love in dark web. Only cruel activities are found here because no-one could stop such illegal websites easily but it is not impossible to track such websites if government wants. Once the owner of drugs website called "Silk Road" caught while he was sitting in library looking for number of drugs sold from his website. Yes, it is impossible to track website but what if someone caught red-handed while he is operating it from library. With the help of him, all gang members of silk road were caught. These prisoners were later released after some punishment and fines. Then, the website called "Silk Road" which is famous for selling drugs closed thereafter. Then silk road 2.0 launched and again was tracked by police. Now, silk road reloaded has started. So don't search dark web because you could be one to be caught by police. Surfing Tor browser or using VPN is not illegal but doing illegal activities using it is illegal.
Imagine, you are surfing dark web for good purpose but co-incidentally you get caught in police eyes while they are tracking the particular website, then you might be jailed. People from many countries are using it who wants to hide their identity but there are some rules to follow for surfing dark web. Therefore, it is better not surfing dark web because everything you need is available in internet.
Now, you will ask, "why government does not stop it ? " - because government itself is running it. The onion routing project was initially funded by two countries to let people stay anonymous in internet but it became exploited later. Many government, army and legal documents and secrets are present in dark web. So, why government would stop it?

The most disturbing thing in dark web is "Red Room". It is somehow same as Youtube where you can watch live murder, torture, killing. Well, someone has to just pay some fees and they are taken in the room where they can watch such live activities. You won't believe that they also sell fresh human skin and other wierd things that you have never imagine of.
Other intresting fact is that all transactions in dark web happened through Bitcoin because it hides the identity of person while trading and they become anonymous while making deals from bitcoin so, nobody could track them.
These are the good and bad things about dark web but how will you become secure from dark web? If someone told you to open the "dot onion" link from Tor browser, don't open it because it might be a link of unusual things like murder, drugs website, etc. After all, they has to sell their product. So, I would advice you to not try it because there is no sense in using it.
